David has been with Global Shares Plc since inception after working with Active Capital Strategies from September 2004 as Director of Legal and Research Services.  Prior to that, David was in the City for four years with international legal firm Ashurst. Although qualifying as an energy lawyer, David worked with Maoiliosa on three major transactions for the eircom ESOP Trustee between 2001 and 2004, including the IPO of eircom in spring 2004. David and Maoiliosa worked closely together on the communications aspects of each of these transactions.

Prior to David’s career in the City, he was to a Research Fellowship in Modern Japanese Studies

at Wadham College, Oxford. Japan is an abiding interest for David and he has lived there for two and a half years, undertaking research for his Ph.d on the separation of state and religion under the post-war Japanese constitution.

David also has a strong background in employee ownership having spent 10 years with the John Lewis Partnership in various management and non-management roles. David was an elected member of both the Central and Branch Councils during his time at John Lewis.  David is the Director if Studies designate for the National College of Ireland’s Master’s degree in Employee Ownership.
