We’re delighted to have been crowned IT@Cork ‘Company of the Year’ 2020.

Like everything else in 2020 the awards season was turned upsidedown, with none of the traditional glamourous black tie award ceremonies taking place. But that didn’t stop IT@Cork from going ahead with their 2020 Awards Programme – albeit virtually – under the theme ‘Socially Distant. Virtually United’.

Now in it’s 15th year, the IT@Cork Annual Leaders Awards take place to acknowledge ‘the best of Cork’s thriving ICT community’ and to shine a light on those ‘who have gone further than most in the use of technology in their respective organisations and businesses’.

The 2020 winners were:

  • Company of the Year Award: Global Shares
  • One to Watch Award: GuardYoo
  • Smart Technology Innovation Award: Flexiwage
  • Tech Person of the Year Award: Ruth Buckley (Chief Information Officer Cork City Council & co-Founder iWish)
  • it@cork Chairperson Community Award: Liam Casey (PCH)

Our CEO Tim Houstoun said: “This Award is great recognition of what Global Shares has accomplished since we relaunched as a fintech business in 2015. We’ve been on a remarkable journey to become a global leader in the employee ownership space and we’re on track to achieve a $1Bn ‘unicorn’ valuation by 2024. This award is also a wonderful endorsement of the hard work done by our amazing team of 400+ staff located at our HQ in Clonakilty, our Cork City office and 14 international locations worldwide.  We congratulate all of this year’s finalists and winners, who represent the ambitious technology ecosystem in Cork and Southern Ireland. It’s great to see these awards going from strength to strength and celebrating the exciting ‘new economy’ technology sector.”

Anthony O’Callaghan, chair of it@cork commented “This year’s it@cork awards were more important than ever as 2020 has been a year when technology has become crucial to the survival of many organisations. All the nominees in this year’s awards have demonstrated that it’s the people that ensure our sector is resilient. The standard between this year’s finalists was incredibly high and each year the selection process gets harder and harder, which is a testament to the innovative culture which is so prevalent across the region.  Mr O’Callaghan said that the navigation of the COVID-19 crisis also featured strongly in the judging process.

This year the Awards nominations and judging process took place fully virtually, and the winners were presented with their awards as part of a socially distanced photoshoot. The prize is an illustrated drawing of Cork’s most iconic places & memorable landmarks, spanning North, South, East and West, by artist Jason O’ Gorman.
