We are delighted to announce that we were crowned ‘Company of the Year’ at the 2020 Ireland Japan Business Awards.  These awards are presented each year to key companies ‘making outstanding contributions to Ireland-Japan business relations’ and are the highlight of the Ireland Japan Chamber of Commerce (IJCC) annual calendar.

John Meehan, our CEO for Japan, accepted the award on behalf of Global Shares during a virtual award ceremony on December 23rd. He said: “It is a proud day for me personally, having held close connections with the Japanese market since early in my career, and a proud day for our company to accept this award.

“Global Shares’ journey from Clonakilty to Japan has been a remarkable one. We began supporting Japanese clients in 2016 and have now developed a unique solution for global Japanese companies to overcome complex technical equity trading barriers, as well as help them easily extend the international reach of their employee share plans.”

He added: “We’ve embraced this opportunity fully over the past number of years and I’m delighted to say that today Japan is one of our fastest-growing markets. It has been a pleasure to work with the Japanese market, establish operations in both Tokyo and Miyazaki, and build a fantastic team to service our significant and growing Japanese client base. We’ve also signed partnerships with some of the country’s most respected financial institutions.

Going forward, as Japanese companies place more and more focus on digitisation, we are well placed to help them reduce their reliance on legacy paper-based processes and ultimately help them deliver equity to their employees globally”.

Patron of the IJCC and Ambassador of Ireland to Japan, Paul Kavanagh, said: “Digitisation is a major political priority for the Japanese government and we see a real opportunity here for Irish companies whose world-renowned prowess in the field of digitisation will help to assist with the digitisation of the Japanese economy.  As part of ‘Team Ireland’ in Tokyo, we will continue to develop closer ties between Irish and Japanese companies, and help to build on the exceptional levels of bilateral trade which exist between our two countries and remains resilient during these pandemic times”.

Eamonn Murphy, Vice President of the IJCC, commented: “We are delighted to see the success of Global Shares in the Japanese market and we look forward to seeing their continued growth in the years ahead. Congratulations on the award.”

We’d like to congratulate this year’s other IJCC business award winners:

  • ATA Tools – Exporter of the Year
  • Niall Keegan – Entrepreneur of the Year
  • Pat O’Riordan, Director of Japan & Korea at Enterprise Ireland – Special Recognition Award
