Global Shares was delighted to be announced the winner of the 2020 ‘Business Success Award’ by the Ireland Portugal Business Network (IPBN). The Award was presented by H.E. Ambassador Ralph Victory, Honorary Patron of the IPBN, at a reception in the Irish Embassy in Lisbon on January 30th.
Each year the Ireland Portugal Business Network (IPBN) awards one company with this prize. To win, Global Shares had to demonstrate major success in 2019 and illustrate how it helped develop trade and business relations between Ireland and Portugal.
There were nine candidates in the running for the award from various sectors including building management and architecture, hospitality, investment development, manufacturing & technology:
- Global Shares
- Aspire Technology
- Konceptness
- The Lisbon Heritage Hotels
- Mespil Development & Investment
- Diamond Properties Algarve
- Agreen
- Waratah Properties
- Horan Automation & Consulting
Each candidate had to submit a formal application and present their success story pitch on the night. The winner was announced at the event by IPBN Chair Aoife Healy and presented by H.E. Ambassador Ralph Victory to Aisling Riordan – Global Shares Marketing Manager and Luis Gonçalves – Global Shares Lead Software Engineer.
Tim Houstoun, Global Shares CEO, commented: “2019 was a year of tremendous expansion for us in Portugal with the official launch of our new state-of-the-art Lisbon office and expansion to more than 50 highly skilled staff. When we took our first steps to develop the technology platform we worked with amazing Portuguese developers at our Irish headquarters who were significant to our success. Our Portuguese team grew and, over time, as they wanted to return home, we decided to open a small Lisbon office. The city is a major hub, with an extensive pool of resources and talent, but our decision was in direct response to the commitment shown by our Portuguese developers. This award is an amazing recognition of their years of dedication and it celebrates the great personal and professional spirit that exists between our countries. Well done to everyone who played their part in achieving this fantastic award!”
Ambassador Ralph Victory congratulated Global Shares and said that the presentations from each of the award nominees were a story of hard work, determination, perseverance and creativity. He commended all the companies and the IPBN for their impact on bilateral trade relations, which, he said, is definitely worth celebrating.
Days after winning the award Global Shares presented at the IPBN ‘Portugal Conference’ in Dublin.
Mark Griffin – Business Development Director Ireland – displayed the winning glassware and shared insights into working and doing business with Portugal with over 200 guests.
